One of those special moments of the year when we enjoy our home more than ever is approaching. Whether you are in the Christmas spirit or not, over the next few weeks we will certainly have visitors, meetings, dinners and lunches that will ask us to make our home cosier.
I really enjoy the preparations, and planning Christmas decorations is one of them. I present you here 8 reasons why decorating your home for the holidays can bring you joy and happiness:
1. It helps to create a festive atmosphere and my guests feel welcome.
2. You evoke memories. Christmas is one of the most emotive times of the year. It allows me not only to recall anecdotes, but also to connect more with myself.
3. Create new memories and rituals. I love to spend long weekends in December decorating my house, for example. It has become a Christmas tradition for me.
4. It seems incredible, but it can reduce anxiety, stress and negativity. If you find yourself overwhelmed by all the commitments at this time of year, you can make the most of the holidays and weekends beforehand. You can also do it in company, either with family or friends, and share out the tasks.
5. Reinforce bonds. It can be the perfect excuse to spend more time with your loved ones. It becomes easier and it can also be fun, especially if you do it with the little ones. Friends are also important. For example, I suggest you invite them over for brunch or an afternoon snack at home and then decorate the house together.
6. Break with the routine. You can take this as a chance to give a new look to your rooms and make some changes.
7. Reinvent your style and boost your creativity. You can adapt the decoration to your style and that of your home, it can be more Nordic, more traditional, more minimalist... The most important is to feel comfortable with the atmosphere which surrounds you.
8. You can add personality and positive energy to your home. When you decorate your home as you like, you are making it more yours. You add more experiences, you create more than a home and you transmit not only your style, but also your cheer.
If you don't know where to start, here are some ideas for Christmas decoration. The main protagonist is, without a doubt, the lighting. It is the one responsible to create magic, which is so essential on this special time. Combining candle holders, table candlesticks and different types of decorative candles you can create a homely and peaceful atmosphere. You can place them in different spaces, such as the entrance, or on a side table, or shelf... to spread warm feeling throughout the house. Remember the importance of the aroma, if you also use scented candles you will add a plus. I also suggest fragrances with hints of orange, nutmeg or cinnamon.
You can decorate with simple elements, using objects that do not lose their decorative potential the rest of the year. Plants and flowers are important in this context. A vase or a few natural baskets can be transformed into Christmas decoration, by addingfloral arrangements. You can also create your own Christmas wreaths and artificial flower centrepieces.

This season is a magical time of the year.
