My home has always had a very distinct feel to it. I surround myself with natural materials, textures that convey a sense of calm, and pieces that seem to tell a story. Jute rugs, wood, soft fabrics… it all forms part of that serene balance in which I feel at ease.

But there is also something in me that changes, that evolves. I am inspired by new trends, by modern décor that appears subtly and suggests different ways of inhabiting spaces. And far from breaking with what I already have, I like to find a way to integrate it, not as a jarring contrast, but as a dialogue between what has always been there and what is new.

One such encounter happened recently. The Yarawa jute rug was already part of my home. It’s one of those pieces that ties everything together: it adds texture and stands out for its embroidered flowers.

Then came the Biel stool; it has that contemporary feel that drew me in from the very first moment. A striking colour, a modern design… a piece clearly linked to modern décor. At first glance, it might seem as though it wouldn’t fit in with the rest of my home, but it was quite the opposite; I placed it on the jute rug and the contrast didn’t clash, it complemented. The warmth of the natural fibres softened its design, whilst the stool added a touch of modernity that made the whole space feel more alive.

What’s more, beyond aesthetics, I really value functionality. Low stools have always been one of those pieces I use all the time. They’re easy to move around and fit into any space: an extra seat when I need one, a makeshift side table next to the sofa, or even a little nook to leave a book or a cup.

And that’s where I see how this kind of décor fits into my home. It’s not about changing everything, nor about rigidly following a trend. It’s about incorporating pieces that inspire me, that I like, and giving them a place within who I already am.

Today, when I look at the whole, I see much more than a combination of objects. I see balance; I see how a natural-fibre rug and a modern stool can coexist without one overpowering the other.

And perhaps that is what I like most about all this: discovering that my home can evolve without losing its essence. That I can open the door to new ideas without giving up what makes me feel good.

Decorating is also about that: listening to what is changing within me… and finding a way to bring it, little by little, into my home.
