There’s something about the arrival of autumn that always invites me to look within. The days start to get shorter, the light becomes softer and, almost without realising it, we find ourselves enjoying those little moments at home once again.

For me, autumn doesn’t just bring a change in temperature. It brings with it a different way of experiencing our spaces: more unhurried, warmer and more mindful. It’s an invitation to surround ourselves with things that make us feel good, to prepare our home for guests and to find beauty in the simplest of things.

For this editorial, I wanted to draw inspiration from precisely that feeling: the cosiness of home that accompanies the new season.

Autumn décor: this is how I envisaged our autumn editorial

I wanted to create images that conveyed a sense of calm, that spoke of a lived-in home and of those spaces where you feel like spending time. A comfortable sofa on which to read for hours, a table laid without the need for a special occasion, or a cosy little coffee corner to start the day at a leisurely pace. Simple, everyday scenes which, with the arrival of autumn, take on a different meaning.

When it came to developing the publisher’s aesthetic, I was clear that I wanted to move away from an overly obvious representation of autumn. Rather than relying on the season’s more traditional motifs, I chose to convey that feeling through materials, textures and light.

Earth tones, beige, cream and tawny shades create a serene and enveloping palette. Textured fabrics, ceramics, glass and natural fibres add depth and make each space feel warm without losing its simplicity. I also wanted light to play a prominent role: soft, golden lighting, capable of transforming even the most everyday gestures into a beautifully curated autumnal setting.

The table as a meeting place

Another key focus of this editorial is the dining table. For me, autumn also means getting back to long meals, welcoming guests into my home and rediscovering the joy of setting a beautiful table.

I wanted it to feel special, but never overly perfect. A table designed to be used, to share, and to linger around for a little longer than planned. Tableware in warm tones, simple glassware, light-coloured tablecloths and small details create a cosy setting that’s very much in keeping with this time of year.

And alongside those shared moments, I also wanted to leave room for individual rituals: making a cup of coffee in the morning, sitting down for a few minutes before the day begins, or finding a corner of the house that simply invites you to linger.

Ultimately, that was the feeling I wanted to convey with each image: an autumn that doesn’t need grand plans, because sometimes the best place to be is simply at home.
