If this summer I took you to the pink heart of Paris, this autumn I will take you to the green heart of Copenhagen, where you can experience the real hygge. Just 200 metres from Nyhavn, close to the legendary Christania and in the heart of the city centre lies the Sanders Hotel.

This former 19th century mansion is located in a cultural and historical setting, surrounded by the Royal Theatre, the opera house, the Kunsthal Charlottenborg contemporary art gallery and the Amalienborg Palace, residence of the Danish royal family.

Starting with the façade, the hotel's impeccable vintage elegance stands out, without a hint of ostentation. The owner, Alexander Kølpin, is particularly interested in reflecting the Danish cultural tradition in this boutique hotel. The interior contains subtle photo references from the world of show business, to which he himself belonged as a leading figure in the country's artistic scene, being named the world's best dancer in 1993.

Its interior design is based on the perfect harmony between minimalist and cosy decoration. So, it manages to balance the pure lines and the combination of cold materials such as the marble of its tables, with other warmer ones such as the wood of its floors, the vegetable fibres and its chromatic range between greens, ochres and creams. The plants, candles and blankets, which dot the different rooms, complete the decoration.

Each space, both communal and private, combines textures: velvet cushions and textiles, heavy draped curtains, leather chairs, rattan doors with a colonial touch, woven carpets, wallpapers, tapestries, ... In the rooms, a hybrid style that combines the retro bistro with contemporary custom-made design pieces is accentuated.

Also worthy of note is the private courtyard with its greenery, the rooftop conservatory where they serve their acclaimed breakfast, the fireplace in the lounge and the TATA bar with its red velvet curtain and lively atmosphere. On Saturday it is open until 2 a.m., which makes it a good place to have a drink before going back to your hotel room.

Although the influence of time can be perceived in its walls and rooms, the fact is that the original 1869 building was completely restored by the London studio Lind + Almond, who have succeeded in creating a modernist and contemporary ambience of cosy nostalgia.
