A few days ago, I told you how important it is for me to include handmade items in the decoration of my home. Another of my passions, very much in tune with this, are antiques, as they are also unique objects that allow you to create very special and authentic spaces. I have always thought that, regardless of their period or style, antiques are objects that preserve the legacy of the past, and it is precisely their story and personality marked by the passage of time that makes them really special.

When I see the small irregularities in a wooden vase or the colour variations in an antique tray, I can't help but wonder who it must have belonged to, which houses it must have been in, and which moments it must have witnessed. Perhaps this is why, I knew long before I moved to live on my own that my house would have a good selection of antique items.

Decorating with antiques doesn't mean changing your whole house to make it look like a museum, you know I like homes to be lived in. Besides, if you place a lot of vintage style objects together, they will go unnoticed. It is more interesting to combine retro decoration items with more modern ones: a contemporary table surrounded by antique chairs, a bookcase with an industrial lamp....  This way, not only will you create a balance, but you will also create your own vintage decoration. If you also give them space, you will add more value because they gain prominence. In fact, you can use an antique object to create a focal point in a room. Be sure to put it in a visible place so that it is the eye catcher.

There are no rules when it comes to combining different styles, materials, periods and even origins. If you haven’t yet tried to decorate with antique items, I encourage you to start with small details and decorative objects, such as paintings with antique prints, vintage decorative letters, furniture with aged finishes, or ceramic pieces of exotic origin. These small touches will help you create a very personal atmosphere. Another tip to decorate with antiques is to make a collection. If you have several antique items that complement each other, you can put them together. For example, you can create a collection of antique vases by playing with their different finishes and sizes, and also add some dried flowers.

If you think that the result may not be the desired one, I recommend you choose an antique item that fit your personality. If it has won you over, it will always have a place in your home. Take advantage of it to enhance your personal taste, while adding a touch of history and nostalgic charm to your spaces. Visit my online shop or any of my physical shops to find a good selection of these items and lots of inspiration.
