I must confess that I am very creative when it comes to home decoration. I love to rearrange furniture, replace cushions and, from time to time, donate what I no longer need to de-clutter rooms and give them a different feel. I love mixing textiles, combining old and new, as well as using colour to change from more conservative, monochromatic styles. I always go back to natural materials that give me a deep sense of peace.
They say that the simple act of moving furniture is an act full of intentions that responds to a need for change. I am convinced that a true home reflects who we are. I think that our home is an extension of ourselves and should reflect everything that fills us and motivates us, but also that as our life changes, our home evolves.
I'm willing to take things slower, but moving the sofa by the window in winter, where the sun is warm and I can snuggle up, is something I won't give up. When the weather is nice, I like to bring out the jute rugs to make the house feel fresh and sunnier.
Rugs are that perfect accessory that makes the house feel comfortable and homely. It seems incredible how, if you choose the right model, you can completely change a house. In my home I have them in all the rooms, they are my best allies to make the house feel cosy all year round.
I love them all! Some of them have been with me for half a lifetime, and time has not affected their attractiveness. They have survived all kinds of fashions and trends, and even the odd move. For several years now, at the end of each season, I have been using a homemade cleaning trick, one of those that a friend of mine told me about and which makes my life so much easier.
I have cotton rugs that can be easily folded; I put them away in spring and rescue them in autumn when the cold weather sets in. They are Persian style rugs and visually they give my home an incredible sense of protection and well-being. I also like sisal rugs. Personally, I am one of those people who prefer a rug for every season of the year, and I admit it. Those made of natural fibres offer me luminosity and beauty, they bring me freshness and make my decoration even more special in the warmer months.
I am in pure harmony with my home. I have always believed in the importance of creating spaces based on defined functions and, today, I declare myself in love with all its settings. They exude calm and serenity. Without a doubt, one of the most gratifying moments is arriving after an exhausting day, leaving the keys on the entrance furniture and taking my shoes off... I remember that decorating the entrance hall was a piece of cake. A teak bench, a natural wood console, a large vase with preserved flowers, lots of candles and a rug with aged finishes that give it a lovely antique feel.
The living room is a space I adore every morning, afternoon and evening. It has a large table for family gatherings and, of course, a short pile rug. Classic, traditional and, at the same time, very stylish. As you may know, I love books. My organic cotton sofa and a coquette rug at the foot of it are a perfect match, together they provide me with a great reading area. Sometimes, I make a cup of tea, a warm woollen blanket and enjoy a good series. Can you ask for more? Yes, I forgot to tell you that at home we are very fond of lying on the floor. On any given Sunday at twelve o'clock in the morning, that same living room can become the faithful image of a picnic day.
I had been thinking for some time now about adding an extra touch of warmth to my room. Today, it has become the perfect place to end the day and start the night with a large rug at the foot of the bed, although I can assure you that I also like to feel it every morning when I wake up.
As you can see, all these moments always include a common denominator: a rug that brings me comfort and sustains my admiration for everything that is natural and authentic.
